Practice the conviction.
Apologize plainly to your wife or child for one specific wrong. Do not explain it away.
Make the repair plainly
Name the specific wrong. Ask forgiveness without explaining it away or asking your child to manage your feelings. Make the next repair you can make, then seek pastoral or qualified help if anger becomes a repeated pattern.
Repentance is not a technique for controlling someone else’s response. It is the fruit of grace in a man who has stopped defending his sin.
